Gum
Springs Horse Trail:
Enjoy a horseback ride through the forest on two developed, scenic trails. The trailhead is located approximately 8 miles west of Winnfield in Winn Parish. From the trailhead, one can access two developed trails and miles of open forest. The Yellow Loop (blazed with yellow diamonds) is approximately 18 miles in length. This loop follows the Blue Loop for approximately 2.5 miles. These sections are blazed with both blue and yellow diamonds. This trail is also wide enough to accommodate wagon traffic. The trail passes between the Moss Blake ponds and has water intermittently along the rest of the trail.
Earl
K. Long Memorial Park:
Such was a favorite saying of Earl Kemp Long, one of the most colorful politicians in Louisiana history. Earl K. Long Memorial Park is a lasting tribute to Louisiana politics and the "last of the red hot papas." Enjoy the park’s picnic pavilion and imagine being a part of the crowd gathering for a community picnic featuring the political outpouring of Earl Kemp Long. The park is symmetrical in design - from its eight-foot bronze statue of Long at the apex of a hedged circular walk to its picnic pavilion, and is a favorite setting for weddings, picnics and city celebrations.
Louisiana
Forest Festival: The Louisiana Forest Festival, re-organized in 1980, salutes Louisiana’s timber industry. Timber products are the largest agricultural crop in Louisiana. The three-day festival encompasses timber-related activities such as competitions in log loading, skidding, grappling for bucks, truck rodeo, and professional timber sports. There are also numerous forestry equipment displays and related exhibits. Professional timber sports competitors come from the United States, Canada and Australia to participate in the year’s first circuit show.
